On 4th July, Talk English learners and volunteers from around the North West came together at Manchester Cathedral to celebrate another year of success.  Talk English learners from all over Greater Manchester took part in activities around this year’s theme: The Environment with stallholders from Biffa and TfGM sharing information about sustainable living and the Bike Hive helping some people to ride a bike for the first time!  Talk English partners led activities about the environment and learners practised their English with representatives and volunteers from Manchester Museum, Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester Libraries, the People’s History Museum and more!

The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Abid Latif Chohan, spoke about gaining confidence through learning English and one of our volunteers from Manchester, Falahat Bokhari, spoke about how much she had gained from volunteering with the project.  Other local councillors mingled in the crowd, chatting to learners and volunteers.

The grand finale came in the form of the Rainbow Haven International Choir, a choir based in Gorton but made up of singers from across the world, who sang a mixture of songs in different languages.  Some of the learners just couldn’t help joining in!

Before heading home, learners and volunteers took advantage of the beautiful weather and the Cathedral gardens to share food together in a truly international picnic.
