Talk English Bradford stepped into the picturesque village of Haworth on Wednesday 26th September 2017 to visit the Bronte Parsonage.

Learners at Womenzone and Meridian Centre have been attending a 5 week workshop throughout summer to stitch and sew their names on 6-8 inches of cloth to display in Haworth as part of the Sew Near Sew Far project.

The Sew Near – Sew Far Project worked in collaboration with the Bronte Parsonage Museum to create a major new art installation celebrating the famous signatures of the Brontë sisters – Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell.

Lynn Setterington and the Parsonage worked with diverse groups of people, from local people in Haworth, volunteers and to community groups across Bradford to create three large-scale, textile artworks along the Bronte Way. The artwork can be seen on the moors close to the Bronte Waterfall from 1st – 14th October.

Learners from Meridian Centre arrived at the Old School Room in Haworth to see some of their artwork being made into a thread of signatures. The learners contributed with some new signatures and looked at the old photographs of Haworth in the 1800s. The learners were split into two groups and were given a guided tour of the Parsonage and Museum. The learners admired the beautiful house but noticed it would have been very cold without central heating!

The Sew Near Sew Far Project is creating a short film and booklet of the journey of the signatures. The Meridian Centre will be holding a small screening for the learners in October/November 2017.
