In June Talk English Bradford celebrated the learners’ achievements and went on a day trip to the seaside.

Our group consisted of a selection of 40 learners, volunteers and staff members across the Bradford consortium. Some of our learners had never been to the seaside before so this was a first chance for many of them to see the sea, feel the sandy beach and avoid seagulls.

On our travels, we learned that Morecambe was historically associated with Bradford and in the early to mid 20th Century was known as ‘Bradford by the sea’ because of its direct rail link from Bradford. We even found the Bradford Arms!

Learners spent the morning shopping at the local festival market and practiced their English buying souvenirs and sweets for their friends and family, whilst others sat on the promenade benches and enjoyed the sea view whilst enjoying their picnics.

The more adventurous ones, walked around Morecambe on a hunt to locate a fish and chips shop – we succeeded and it was delicious.

The afternoon was spent leisurely relaxing on the beach, paddling in the sea, playing tennis on the beach despite the cool breeze… and taking selfies!

A well deserved ice cream was the treat to end the day on a high.

Here are a few highlights of our trip to Morecambe:
