Here is a selection of pictures to show a variety of creativeness that sprouted from Bradford in the Talk English project.

Our learners enjoy being creative with their hands. Throughout the project, we have witnessed learners creating mehndi designs, baking cupcakes for Valentine’s Day, baking and creating baskets for Easter and cooking numerous dishes for EID parties and then decorating gingerbread biscuits and creating their own cards for Christmas. We are certainly celebrating diversity here.

Other partners have been creative in their activity ideas with Savvy Shopping, which created a virtual shopping environment within a community centre or classroom so learners could practice their English going to the shops. Other activities included, Chai and Chat where anyone could drop in for a cup of tea and a chat, how to make beans on toast for learners to experience a typically British meal and watching the Bollywood film, ‘English Vinglish’ which is all about an Indian woman enrolling into an ESOL class because she can’t place an order in English at an American restaurant. This encouraged learners to discuss the similarities between themselves and the film and how they too can succeed.

We have offered IT workshops at many centres to encourage learners to look at the website on their smart phones and introduce them to basic IT. There have also been many health awareness activities that have taken place, which give learners information on major health issues including diabetes, wellbeing and MacMillan coffee mornings.

Across Bradford we have run over 200 activities and our learners have visited still only a handful of places across Bradford. Some places include bus trips to Villa Parade at Bradford City Football ground, Peel Park and Lister Park, Cartwright Hall, Manningham, Ecclesshill and City Libraries, pharmacies, gyms, cafes, the National Media Museum, numerous garden centres, the world heritage site in Saltaire including the annual Saltaire Festival and many more not forgetting our larger trips to Manchester and Morecambe.
