Talk English would like to congratulate St Vincent’s on their Jo Cox Award at the Leeds Compassionate City Awards Celebration 2017.

St Vincent’s Community Learning and Development programme was honoured to be the winners of the Jo Cox Award at the Leeds Compassionate City Award Celebration 2017. St Vincent’s run a Community Learning and Development programme that brings people together to positively change their lives and their communities. Over 35 volunteers weekly give their time to teach over 18 classes in ESOL and IT, help people into work by providing practical support and giving wider support and advice (including immigration advice) to migrants in need. Within the Community Learning Development programme there are 8 Talk English classes and many Talk English activities. Julie, Talk English coordinator said “those of us collecting the award on behalf of the programme felt honoured and enjoyed an inspirational evening. To have Kim Leadbeater, Gordon and Jean Leadbetaer (Jo Cox’ sister and parents) there to present the award to St Vincent’s was an overwhelmingly meaningful experience.”

Three cheers for St Vincents- a well-deserved award!
