Another week and another award for Talk English- this time recognising the achievements of the fantastic partnership delivering Talk English in Kirklees!

Last Thursday, the Talk English project in Kirklees partnership won Project of the Year at the Kirklees Community Learning Awards.  Led by Kirklees Council, Kirklees Community Learning Trust have successfully delivered the Talk English project in Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Batley in partnership with Paddock Community Trust, Ravensthorpe Community Centre, Voluntary Action Kirklees, Kirklees Libraries and Kirklees College.

Since starting last year, the project has supported more than 650 people to improve their English and get more involved in the community through Talk English Courses and Cafes run in community centres, libraries, children’s centres and schools in Kirklees.  Through the project, staff from Kirklees College, Paddock Community Trust and Ravensthorpe Community Centre have trained and supported over 140 volunteers to teach learners on Courses and support learners in Cafes.

Staff from Paddock Community Trust and Ravensthorpe Community Centre have also trained over 100 front line staff from local businesses and services through Talk English Here, in an effort to help them understand language barriers and communicate more clearly with people who have low levels of English.

Congratulations to all partners, staff and volunteers in Kirklees on this great achievement!
