Great conversation and new friendships were made today at the newest Talk English Café, which opened its doors at Longsight Library.

It was a lively first week for the café, as 12 new learners came along to practise speaking English with the help and support of Talk English Friends Lizz, Gasim and Khalida. Our fantastic Friends are trained volunteers who give up their time to help fellow residents improve their English and also encourage them to get more involved in the community and access local services.

As the theme for today was life in the UK, learners discovered new facts about the UK and talked about the things they liked the most about living here.

The Talk English Cafe at Longsight Library is the newest addition to the informal conversation cafés in Manchester, which are run through Talk English at Fallowfield Library, Levenshulme Inspire and the Booth Centre. Cafés take place weekly and operate on a drop-in basis, providing a safe, friendly opportunity for people to practise speaking English.

If you or someone you know would like to improve their English, the Café at Longsight Library takes place every Wednesday, 10-11:30.  For details of our other Cafés and Courses, click here.
