Over 450 people attended Celebrate! with Talk English last Thursday at Manchester Cathedral, including 300 learners from Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Bradford, Kirklees, Blackburn with Darwen and Lancashire.

There were lots of activities for learners to take part in, including art and craft activities, language games and object handling and art appreciation from Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester Museum and the People’s History Museum. Students from Oldham College also provided mini manicures and hand massages.

In addition, staff from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue, Greater Manchester Police, Macmillan Cancer Awareness, Manchester Health Trainers and the MCC Recycling Community Engagement Team attended the event, providing learners and volunteers with information and advice about staying safe and keeping healthy.

The event was also really well supported by the visitor services team at Manchester Cathedral.

To date, the project has engaged over 5500 learners, supported by more than 1000 volunteers. Learners engaged on the project come from over 80 different countries and speak more than 50 different languages.
