The date was 19th April 2016 and it was a bright, sunny day, which was a lovely surprise for those residing in Bradford with continuous gloomy weather. Perfect, you could you say for an afternoon tea at Victoria Hall.

The hall was booked, the food ordered, the invites sent and the RSVPs received. Victoria Hall, based in Saltaire’s world heritage site was decorated for afternoon tea with sunlight streaming through the arch windows.

In recognition of all their hard work, time and commitment to their ESOL classes and to say a big “Thank you” to all of the volunteers who took part in Talk English, the Bradford volunteers got together to celebrate their great work over tea and cream cakes, scones, sandwiches… we must also mention a special thanks to the Meridian Centre who provided plenty of hot pakoras.

Phase 2, the extension of Talk English from August 2015 to March 2016 was a phenomenal success in Bradford and our 62 volunteers supported over 1000 learners in classes and activities across the district.

The volunteers enjoyed sharing their experiences with other volunteers from Bradford’s consortium partners and wrote memorable moments and quotes on a Talk English bubble before graciously having their picture taken. They were then presented with a postcard as a token of gratitude.
