Manchester Adult Education Service works with many different organisations to provide courses and activities that help people learn English, access services and get involved in the community.


Learn English with us

If you need to learn English, you can come to one of our Talk English Courses.  We offer courses in community centres, libraries, schools and children’s centres all over Manchester.

On a Talk English Course, you will improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English.  All of our courses are for beginners.


Volunteer with us

We provide training and support to people who would like to volunteer to help people learn English. Watch the video to find out more:

Talk English Volunteer Training Courses 

Preparing to Volunteer with Talk English 

Get the skills and knowledge you need to support learners on Talk English Courses and Activities. This is an essential course for all Talk English volunteers. You will need to attend for 10 hours over 4 sessions.

Teach with Talk English

Develop the skills and knowledge you will need to prepare, deliver and assess inclusive learning activities. This an additional 5 hour course delivered over two sessions.

Level 3 Award in Education and Training

Get the skills, knowledge  and experience you need to teach ESOL in the community and work towards a nationally recognised teaching qualification.  The contents includes lesson planning, writing a scheme of work, meeting individual learner needs and assessment. You will also be formally assessed at your teaching placement. This is an additional 14 week course for those who have completed initial training with Talk English and volunteered with us.

We also offer regular training sessions throughout the year.
